{"id":5911,"date":"2020-12-28T19:42:39","date_gmt":"2020-12-28T19:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/behzistdanesh.com\/?p=5911"},"modified":"2021-06-06T04:39:42","modified_gmt":"2021-06-06T04:39:42","slug":"turning-bioplastics-into-green-solvent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/behzistdanesh.com\/en\/turning-bioplastics-into-green-solvent\/","title":{"rendered":"Turning waste bioplastics into green solvent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Do you know a faster, more efficient way of <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>recycling<\/strong> <\/span>of <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>PLA-based bioplastics<\/strong><\/span> has been developed by a team of scientists at the Universities of Birmingham and Bath<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The team tested their method on three separate PLA products- a disposable cup, some 3D printer waste, and a children&#8217;s toy<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The results showed that a chemical process, using a zinc-based catalyst developed at the University of Bath and methanol, can be used to break down bioplastics and produce the <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>green solvent<\/strong><\/span>, called methyl lactate, which can be sold for use in a wide variety of industries including cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Their results are published in the<em> journal Industrial &amp; Engineering Chemistry Research<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ref: <a
