Only around 20 percent of this plastic is recycled. In mechanical recycling, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>waste plastics<\/strong><\/span> are shredded and melted to make <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>recyclate<\/strong><\/span>, which is then used to make new products. However, this material is not suitable for many applications without further processing. One reason is that repeated use and processing often damage the <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>polymer chains<\/strong><\/span> so much that the plastic becomes brittle or yellowed. Another reason is that plastic waste is often made up of a mixture of different plastic types which cannot be separated from each other. For example, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>beverage bottles<\/strong><\/span> are made of <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>polyethylene terephthalate<\/strong><\/span> (<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>PET<\/strong><\/span>), while their lids are usually made of <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>polypropylene<\/strong> <\/span>(<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>PP<\/strong><\/span>). Such mixtures of incompatible plastics have a significantly negative impact on quality<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5948 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/behzistdanesh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/recycling-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"plastic recycling\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behzistdanesh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/recycling-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/behzistdanesh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/recycling-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/behzistdanesh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/recycling.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>BASF<\/strong> <\/span>researchers have addressed these problems by developing various additive packages to specifically stabilize and improve the quality of recycled materials. In this regard, materials such as <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>compatibilizers<\/strong> <\/span>will enhance the mechanical properties of polymer mixtures.
