Kaneka to expand production capacity of biomass polymer in Japan
News- Kaneka corporation has announced it will significantly increase production capacity for its Kaneka Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet resin, in Japan. The new plant will be constructed at the Kaneka Takasago manufacturing site and will involve an investment of some 15 billion Japanese yen. It will have a capacity of 15,000 tons/year
Green Planet PHBH is a biomass polymer produced by microorganism biosynthesis using plant oils. The material biodegrades easily both in soil and in water – salt- and fresh water. So, it holds promise as an innovative solution against environmental harm caused by single-use plastics due to its’ biodegradable characteristics, while maintaining similar functionality as traditional plastics
Green Planet is already being used for straws, cutlery, coffee capsules, bags, films, etc., and these applications alone amount to over 5 million tons per year
